Matthew 6:6 (KJV)

But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly.

Jesus speaks out in the context of this verse against those who were praying to be seen and heard of men. How sad that the Pharisees prayed in the synagogues and in the streets to call attention to themselves rather than focus on the God who loves to hear and answer prayer. Thank God for Christians who are God-focused when praying in public, and I think it is so because they spend much time before God in private prayer each day. It’s been rightly said, “The greatest thing anyone can do for God or man is to pray;” and the bottom line is that Jesus has given us an assignment: “Pray to thy Father which is in secret.”
