For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast. For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.
These verses are not against good works, but they do teach we cannot be saved by good works. If that were possible, it would not have been necessary for Jesus to die to save us from our sins. We are saved by grace through faith so that God may work in us and through us for our good and for his glory. “For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.”
