The Story of Jesus Feeding the Multitude (John 6:5-14)

There were about 5,000 men besides women and children that came to be with Jesus one day when he was up on a mountain with his disciples. Jesus taught them many wonderful things about God. Jesus also healed the sick people that were brought to him. It was a wonderful day, and if I lived on the earth at that time I would be excited about being there with Jesus, wouldn’t you? The day is about over, but wait, another very big miracle is about to happen. The people were getting hungry and the disciples wanted to send them away so they could go and buy food. Jesus had compassion on the people and told his disciples to give them food and not send them away hungry. The only food they could find was five barley loaves and two small fishes that belonged to a boy in the crowd. Jesus told his disciples to ask the people to sit down on the grass, and he prayed and gave thanks for the food they had. The Bible says that Jesus then gave the bread to his disciples and his disciples gave it them that were set down, and they did the same with the fish. Everyone in the crowd ate until they were completely full and no longer hungry. In fact, the food that was left after everyone had finished eating was enough to fill twelve baskets. Wow! How could that happen? It happened because Jesus is the Son of God and with God all things are possible. Is there a lesson we should learn from this story? I think we should be thankful every day for the food God gives us to satisfy our hunger and to keep us alive. I also think we should pray before our meals and thank God for the food he provides, that’s what Jesus did.
