Luke 20:45-47 (KJV)

Then in the audience of all the people he said unto his disciples, Beware of the scribes, which desire to walk in long robes, and love greetings in the markets, and the highest seats in the synagogues, and the chief rooms at feasts; Which devour widows' houses, and for a shew make long prayers: the same shall receive greater damnation.

“Beware of the scribes;” beware lest you be taken in by them; beware lest you become like them. The scribes liked to put on and show off to impress people, but on the inside they were evil. Jesus said, “the same shall receive greater damnation.” Jesus also said, “Blessed are the pure in heart for they shall see God.” May God help us not only to "beware of the scribes” but also to be aware of and seek after what we can become through faith in Christ.
