Matthew 9:10-11 (KJV)

And it came to pass, as Jesus sat at meat in the house, behold, many publicans and sinners came and sat down with him and his disciples. And when the Pharisees saw it, they said unto his disciples, Why eateth your Master with publicans and sinners?

The Pharisees saw Jesus eating with publicans and sinners and questioned why he would do such a thing. It was definitely beneath them. They saw the great physician bring healing and wholeness to the down and out crowd who were not worthy of God’s grace. They would have nothing to do with that and especially when he did it on the Sabbath Day. Oh, how far these Pharisees were from God. Their pride and self-centeredness were often rebuked by Jesus. Let us learn the lesson Jesus taught by his example in today’s Bible passage and learn it well. Every soul that is lost in sin, no matter how deep they have gone, is still a human being and worthy of someone reaching out to them with the love of Jesus.
