And when they had platted a crown of thorns, they put it upon his head, and a reed in his right hand: and they bowed the knee before him, and mocked him, saying, Hail, King of the Jews! And they spit upon him, and took the reed, and smote him on the head. And after that they had mocked him, they took the robe off from him, and put his own raiment on him, and led him away to crucify him.
Jesus’ death at Calvary was much more than just the death of a righteous man. Hebrews 2:9 tells us that he “tasted death for every man” and 1 Cor. 15:3 that “Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures.” He even died for the sins of the very ones who mocked, abused, and crucified him. Jesus suffered, bled, and died to redeem back to God all those who believe on Him. Let us be thankful!
