Though he were a Son, yet learned he obedience by the things which he suffered; And being made perfect, he became the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey him; Called of God an high priest after the order of Melchisedec.
Let’s first acknowledge we all need a high priest to intercede with God on our behalf. There’s nothing we can do that’s good enough to erase our sins or earn our acceptance with God. How does Jesus qualify as being our perfect high priest? He is the only sinless human being that ever lived; he is God’s Son, sent into this world for the sole purpose of saving lost mankind; but it was Christ’s sufferings and death that made atonement for our sin. “Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree” (1 Peter 2:24). We have great need of Christ, and we have a great Christ for our every need.
