Hebrews 4:12 (KJV)

For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

The Word of God is here described an offensive weapon, “a sharp two-edged sword.” Joshua lifted up his sword as God commanded him and conquered Canaan. We must lift up our sword, the Bible, and thereby defeat all the giants that fight against the will of God in our lives. A sword left in its sheath does nothing, neither does a Bible left upon a shelf. Our enemy is powerful; he can deceive us with his lies, he can frighten us with his roaring, but he cannot stand against the Word of God. Oh, let us often rely upon what Jesus said in the wilderness, “Get thee behind me Satan, for it is written…”
