Hebrews 8:10 (KJV)

For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, saith the Lord; I will put my laws into their mind, and write them in their hearts: and I will be to them a God and they shall be to me a people.

The old covenant was the best there was at that time to bring people into a right relationship with God. It was better than anything else that was going on; it was better than heathenism; and it was better than all the contemporary man made religions, the worship of idols, etc. The old covenant was not intended to be a once and forever solution to man’s dilemma of being separated from God because of his sin. It did, however, point to the perfect solution. It pointed to Jesus who is the minister of the new covenant and the author of eternal salvation. Aren’t you glad we live in the days of the new covenant?
