The Story of the Sower, Part 2 (Matthew 13:3-23)

Today we continue the Parable of the Sower. Do you remember what the seed in this parable represents? Yes, the seed stands for God’s Word or the Bible and that would include Bible Stories. Just as a farmer sows seeds of grain on his land, and the wind carries it everywhere; it is God’s will that the seed of his Word, the Bible, be sown in the whole world. I’m praying that boys and girls around the world will be able to read or hear these daily Bible Stories and put their trust in Jesus. Wouldn’t that be great? Maybe you can pray with me that it will happen. Today we finish the Parable of the Sower with parts three and four. Part 3: Some of the seed fell among thorns. Will it grow? It may start to grow, but the thorns will soon choke the young plants and they will not produce any fruit. And just as that is true, some people allow the worries of this life to choke (or crowd out) their faith in God. They also may be so busy trying to get more and more money that they do not take time to pray and read the Bible. Boys and girls, let’s make sure that does not happen to us. Part 4: The Bible says that some seed “fell into good ground, and brought forth fruit, some an hundredfold, some sixtyfold, some thirtyfold.” What does “an hundredfold” mean? It means that the crop was 100 times more than the seed that was planted. That’s a pretty good harvest, don’t you think? And just as that is true, I believe God wants to make something good and beautiful of all our lives. I believe that if we read and listen to Bible Stories with faith in our hearts, God will bless us and make us stronger Christians, and that’s what I want for you more than anything else. Maybe God will use you and your prayers to help 100 more people believe in Jesus. I can’t think of anything more important than helping someone believe in Jesus, can you?
