The Story of Departing from Egypt, Part 2 (Exodus 14)

You would think Pharaoh and all the Egyptians would have learned from the ten plagues that you cannot fight against God and win. When Moses and Aaron came into the land to bring God’s people out of Egypt, Pharaoh was believed to be a god. The Egyptians also believed the Nile River, frogs, bulls and cows, the sky, the sun, and many other things were gods. People can make false gods of almost anything, but we know there is only one true and living God. He has power to do whatever he chooses to do, and God chose to put his judgments upon Egypt because they mistreated the Hebrews. I think the ten plagues were also a judgment upon the false gods of Egypt. God wanted people to know that he alone was the true God. Now it wasn’t long after the Israelites departed that Pharaoh was sorry he let them go because the Egyptians no longer had slaves to do their work. Pharaoh heard that the people had stopped at the Red Sea, and there were mountain ranges on each side of them. That sounded like a good trap to him, and he decided to go after them. He got his army, his chariots, and his horsemen together and was determined to either bring his slaves back or kill them. It didn’t take long to catch up with the Israelites, and when they saw Pharaoh and his chariots coming in the distance they were really afraid and complained to Moses. Moses said to them, “Fear ye not, stand still, and see the salvation of the Lord.” He also told them, “The Lord shall fight for you, and ye shall hold your peace.” Who do you think will win, Pharaoh or God?
