The Story of Crossing the Red Sea, Part 1 (Exodus 14)

Were the Israelites really trapped, as Pharaoh believed, with the Red Sea in front of them and a mountain range on each side of them? I think a good way to answer that question is to ask another question. How did the Israelites get to the place where they were? I’m sure you remember that God led them there with a pillar of cloud by day and a pillar of fire by night. Now, if God led them there, I don’t think they were trapped, do you? Could it be that Pharaoh and his armies were the ones that were walking into a trap? The people were afraid when they saw the Egyptians coming closer and closer, but Moses told them not to be afraid because God would fight for them. He also told them that this would be the last time they would see the Egyptians. Now here’s what happened according to the Bible. When Pharaoh got close to the people, the angel of the Lord and the pillar fire that was in front of the Israelites moved and went behind them. God was now between his people and the enemies of his people. If Pharaoh is going to capture or kill the Israelites, he will have to get past God first, and I don’t think that’s going to happen, do you? Actually, the pillar of fire in the sky gave light to God’s people all night so they could see what was going on, but darkness was on the Egyptians all night and they could not come any closer. You would think Pharaoh would fear God after the ten plagues. You would think he would know you can’t fight against God and win. Tomorrow, we will learn about the mighty miracle that saved the people of Israel but destroyed the Egyptians.
