The Story of 40 Years in the Wilderness, Part 2 (Exodus 16)

God’s people walked about in the wilderness 40 years before they entered the land God promised them. During that time they learned some hard lessons about trusting and obeying God. Here are some questions I asked yesterday: “How did over a million people with all their herds of cattle and flocks of sheep survive in the wilderness 40 years? What did they eat? Where did they get water to drink? Today we will find answers to those questions from the Bible. Of course those who trusted and obeyed God survived because he was leading them all the way. I’m sure you remember the Bible Story about God leading them with a pillar of cloud by day and a pillar of fire by night. How much food do you think it took to feed all the dads and moms and boys and girls and all the animals? Where did they get all that food? Here’s what happened. The Lord told Moses, “Behold, I will rain bread from heaven for you,” and each morning the people went out to gather what they needed to last them all day. It was called manna, and the Bible says it tasted “like wafers made with honey.” That sounds good to me! I think it would even be better than going to a grocery store to get food, don’t you? There were times God also sent strong winds to blow quail upon the land so they would have meat to eat. The people sometimes camped by springs of water in the wilderness, but there were other times God performed miracles to bring water from the rocks for his people. God was good to them, and he led them safely home. God is also good to us, and if we trust and obey him, he will one day lead us to our beautiful home in heaven. I don’t want to miss it, do you?
