The story of the Good Samaritan, Part 2 (Luke 10:25-37)

I was acting out the part of the poor man lying along the side of the road moaning and groaning for someone to help him? Of course, the kids in the group that played the part of the thieves didn’t really beat me up. They just acted like they beat me up, and they didn’t have real clubs but only something that looked like real clubs. I think the really sad part of this story is that two people just walked by and didn’t even try to help the suffering man. I think that made God sad as well. But here’s the really good part of the story: Jesus said, “But a certain Samaritan, as he journeyed, came where he was: and when he saw him, he had compassion on him.” The Samaritan bound up the man’s wounds the best he could and set him on his own animal which was probably a donkey. He then brought the man to an inn and took care of him all night. The next morning, he gave money to the keeper of the inn who agreed to care for the wounded man until he was well. The Samaritan even told the inn keeper he would give him more money if it was needed. Do you think God was pleased by what the Samaritan did to help the suffering man? Do you now know why we call him the Good Samaritan? When we were acting out this story, the person playing the part of the good Samarian did not have a real donkey to put me on so she put me in a wheelchair and took me to a make believe hospital. She did what she could to help me, and I think that’s what his story is all about. When Jesus asked the lawyer which of these three was a neighbor to him that fell among thieves, the lawyer answered, “He that showed mercy upon him.” Jesus then said to the man, “Go and do thou likewise.” Boys and girls, if we ever see someone in trouble and we can get help for them, let’s do it!
