And the Pharisees came forth, and began to question with him, seeking of him a sign from heaven, tempting him. And he sighed deeply in his spirit, and saith, Why doth this generation seek after a sign? verily I say unto you, There shall no sign be given unto this generation. And he left them, and entering into the ship again departed to the other side.
Jesus “sighed deeply in his spirit.” Wickedness and unbelief was a cause of grief to him, and it is a cause of grief for the church today. Philippians 3:18 reads, “For many walk, of whom I have told you often, and now tell you even weeping, that they are the enemies of the cross of Christ.” The Pharisees had witnessed so many miracles, yet they asked for a sign from heaven. Oh, let us not require another miracle, but let our faith rest upon God’s Word and God’s Son.
