And Ruth said, Intreat me not to leave thee, or to return from following after thee: for whither thou goest, I will go; and where thou lodgest, I will lodge: thy people shall be my people, and thy God my God: Where thou diest, will I die, and there will I be buried: the Lord do so to me, and more also, if ought but death part thee and me.
Ruth pledged faithfulness to her Mother in-law and claimed Naomi’s God to be her God. What kind of a friend are we? Are we a friend for all times or is our love a fair-weather love? Are we friends to those who can help us but turn away from those who need our help? May God make us faithful like Ruth, but even more let us learn from Jesus that “a friend loveth at all times.”
