And when there arose a great dissension, the chief captain, fearing lest Paul should have been pulled in pieces of them, commanded the soldiers to go down, and to take him by force from among them, and to bring him into the castle. And the night following the Lord stood by him, and said, Be of good cheer, Paul: for as thou hast testified of me in Jerusalem, so must thou bear witness also at Rome.
In verses 2-5 of this chapter Paul shared that he was a Pharisee and believed in the resurrection of the dead. This started a violent uproar between the Pharisees and the Sadducees with Paul dangerously in the middle until rescued by the Roman soldiers. It was really God who rescued Paul through the soldiers, and it would be so in the years that followed “for the Lord stood by him, and said, Be of good cheer, Paul: for as thou hast testified of me in Jerusalem, so must thou bear witness also at Rome.” Can we believe that even when things seem to not be going well, God still has a purpose and direction for our lives? Yes, and it is because the Lord stands with us. Jesus said, “I will never leave thee nor forsake thee.”
