Proverbs 17:3 & 17 (KJV)

The fining pot is for silver, and the furnace for gold: but the LORD trieth the hearts. A friend loveth at all times, and a brother is born for adversity.

More precious to God than silver and gold is a human heart filled with a love for God and for people. When God tries our hearts does he find more than just words of love; does he find actions of love, and a commitment to love others as God loves us? I think the story of the Good Samaritan in Luke 10, illustrates well what godly love is and does; and Jesus said, “Go and do thou likewise.” Just remember, we can’t out-love God. Jesus is our Good Samaritan and our friend who “loveth at all times.”
