Jonah 3:1-3 (KJV)

And the word of the Lord came unto Jonah the second time, saying, Arise, go unto Nineveh, that great city, and preach unto it the preaching that I bid thee. So Jonah arose, and went unto Nineveh, according to the word of the Lord. Now Nineveh was an exceeding great city of three days' journey.

Some have called Jonah the “gospel of the second chance.” How good God is to put roadblocks in the way of our disobedience in order to bring us back to our senses. There are lines to a poem I like that read, “When he had rested and dried in the sun, He started for Nineveh most on the run; And though he was nearly three days late He preached from the time he entered the gate, Till the whole population repented and prayed and the great hand of justice and vengeance was stayed.” Let us learn from Jonah the lesson of obedience.
