The Story of Isaac, Part 3 (Genesis 24)

Abraham’s servant is on an important journey. He is going to Haran to find a wife for Isaac. He takes ten camels with him and everything he needs for the long journey. Will he find the right woman, and will she agree to become Isaac’s wife even before she sees him? The servant finally arrives in the city where Abraham’s brother, Nahor, lives. He stops, and his camels kneel down by a well of water to rest from the long journey. The servant then prays for God to help him find the right woman, and this is part of what he prayed, “O Lord God, when women come to draw water from the well, I will ask one of them for a drink of water from her pitcher. If the woman says ‘drink and I will give thy camels to drink also’ let that be the woman you have chosen to become the wife of Isaac.” Believe it or not that’s exactly what happened, and a beautiful woman named Rebekah was the one God had chosen for Isaac. The servant asked her for a drink of water, and she gave him and his camels water to drink just as he had prayed. When Rebekah and her family learned of the servant’s mission, and how God answered his prayer, they all agreed it was of God. Then Rebekah, riding upon a camel returned with the servant and became Isaac’s wife. Isaac loved the wife God had gave him, and Rebekah was very pleased to have a husband like Isaac. Do you think they will live happily ever after?
