Pharaoh commanded that all baby boys born of the Hebrew women be thrown into the Nile river, but when Moses was born his mother and father would not kill their son as the king commanded. Instead, they hid their baby and trusted God to protect him and them. I’m guessing it was not easy to hide Moses 24 hours a day because all babies cry, and sometimes they cry very loudly. They kept him hid for three months, but now they must do something else. Do you think they will put him into the river? Actually they did, but first they put him into an ark which was a waterproof basket they had made, and then they put the ark into the water by some reeds near the bank of the river. Moses’ sister, her name was Miriam, was given the job of watching baby Moses from a distance to see what would happen to him. Now, you are not going to believe what happened next. Pharaoh’s daughter came walking down along the river maybe looking for a good place to wade into the water and take a bath. She saw the ark and sent a slave girl to get it. When she opened the ark baby Moses was crying, and Pharaoh’s daughter felt sorry for him. She said, “This is one of the Hebrew’s children.” That’s when Miriam ran up and asked Pharaoh’s daughter if she wanted her to get one or the Hebrew women to nurse the baby for her. She told Miriam to do so, and she ran and got Moses’ own mother to take care of him for Pharaoh’s daughter. Now Miriam was one smart girl, don’t you think? Pharaoh’s daughter told Moses’ own mother to take the child home and nurse him for her. She even paid his own mother to take care of him. Do you think Moses’ mother and father were glad they had trusted God to take care of Moses and them? What do you think will happen when Moses grows older?
God was watching over baby Moses all the time, and he worked things out so his own mother could take care of him. If we put our trust in Jesus, will God work things out for us when life sometimes gets hard?
