The Story of Daniel and the Lion’s Den, Part 3 (Daniel 6)

After he knew about the writing being signed by the king, the Bible says that Daniel “went into his house; and his windows being open…he kneeled upon his knees three times a day, and prayed, and gave thanks to God.” Right away Daniel’s jealous enemies went to the king and asked him if he had not signed a decree that anyone asking a petition of any God or man except the king would be thrown into the den of lions. The king told them it was true and that according to the law of the Meads and Persians the thing could not be changed. They told the king that Daniel had broken the law, and then he realized he had been deceived and tricked into signing a decree that would destroy his number one president. The king did everything he could to save Daniel, but the law could not be broken and he finally gave the order to throw Daniel into the den of lions. King Darius was really sad. He would not eat anything, and he did not sleep all night. Now what about Daniel? He had been on God’s side when he prayed and kept God’s commandments. Will God now be on Daniel’s side and protect him from the lions? Oh, yes! God sent an angel to stay with Daniel all night long. The angel shut the lions’ mouths so they could not harm Daniel. I’m not sure about this, but I’m thinking he might have even used one of the lions for a pillow and had a very good night’s sleep. What do you think? Of course the king was very excited and happy when he saw how God kept Daniel alive and well. What do you think happened to the jealous presidents and princes? I will tell you this much. The lions were very hungry after missing their supper, and their mouths were no longer shut.
