The Story of Noah and the Flood, Part 2 (Genesis 6)

God is holy, and he created mankind to be holy; but after Adam and Eve disobeyed God, people everywhere started doing the same thing. The devil kept lying to people and causing them to doubt God and disobey God. Things keep getting worse and worse until no one loved God anymore except Noah and his family. People were hurting each other and killing each other and doing many wicked things all the time. It broke God’s heart because he knew he had to destroy the people he had created and loved. There was no other way to hold back sin in the world. God told Noah how it would happen. God would destroy everything with a great flood. He told Noah to build an ark (or a giant boat) which would keep his family safe. There were eight people in Noah’s family; his wife, his three sons and their wives. The ark, however, had to be very large because God told Noah to also bring into the ark a male and female of every animal on the earth. Then, after the flood was over, Noah’s family and the animals in the ark would repopulate the earth. It would be a fresh start for mankind after all the sin had been cleansed from the earth by the great flood. We will learn more of the details tomorrow.
